Maria Sharapova Wannabe Gets Booted for Grunts
In our previous post, we promised a return to the usual snark. We weren’t a-bluffin’.
Move over, Maria Sharapova. There’s a new Queen of Scream in town.
Ah, well. Here’s proof that our astute observations deserve a hearty self-congratulations. (Pfft–as if there’s never been a hint of smugness on this blog). A 9-year-old tennis player got tossed from an Australian club for—wait for it—grunting too loudly. And not tossed for the day. Banned.
That’s music to our ears, in a manner of speaking.
Why, just the other day we posted a handy YouTube clip of Maria Sharapova. No, not the nauseating lovefest montage. We mean the other clip: 20 seconds of Maria’s grunts, which, for us, ranks somewhere between “nails on a chalkboard” and “tiny, overanxious dogs with a penchant for constant barking” in terms of Sounds We Like.
Could this mean the end of an era, the dawn of the age of intolerance for intolerable shrieks?
We can only hope.

Sadly, it’s not just you. Another reader ‘fessed up to liking Maria’s grunts in a previous post. You guys must have some kind of built-in filter that channels shrieks into something not only tolerable, but appealing.
