Gossip On Sports - The Latest Dish On and Off the Field

Fasten Your Seatbelts for Project Blog

by Jodie Lynn Boduch on November 14th, 2007

Gossip on Sports is in the game, baby! Yours truly is officially a contestant in Project Blog, the blogosphere’s answer to Project Runway, Survivor, Top Chef, and every other guilty pleasure of the vote-’em-off-the-island variety.

This should be a blast! There are prizes for contestants and, more importantly, contests and prizes for YOU.

How does it work? Well, ten other bloggers and myself will be given weekly “challenges” by Project Blog host (and fellow b5-er) Allison Boyer. All the challenges will be inspired by that week’s Project Runway—don’t worry, you needn’t watch the show to join in the fun. The challenges are based on the show, but the content here will remain snarky and sports-oriented.

Then what? Readers VOTE (more on that when I post the first challenge entry tomorrow), along with a panel of 3-5 judges, for Gossip on Sports every week without fail the best entry. Lots of points=alive another week; not enough points=pack your keyboard and go back to blog obscurity.

Your participation gives you a chance to win the weekly prize. Each week we’ll have a new sponsor and a new prize. Want to get in touch with your inner green? Then you’ll heart our Week One sponsor, Ecoist. They’re fashion-forward and eco-friendly.

*Stagehand whispers: “Tell them what the prize is, for crying out loud!” Rolls eyes and snaps back, “We know. We want to plug the sponsor, OK? Now, make yourself useful and fetch me a nonfat pumpkin spice latte. Since when does a blog have a stagehand, anyway?”*

So . . . the Week One prize is Ecoist’s “Stop Global Warming” bracelet, which looks like this:

(Hands not included, for you creepy body poart hoarders out there. You know who you are).

Would you believe that these bracelets—and Ecoist’s other moderately-priced goodies—are made from recycled material such as soda cans and candy wrappers? Several weeks ago and before knowing Ecoist was a Project Blog sponsor, we scoped out one of their handbags (similar to the bracelet) at an artsy boutique. The verdict: Very trendy and eye-catching. And, the company plants one tree for every bracelet or handbag sold.

You have not one, not two, but THREE chances to win each week. Here’s how: (1) Leave a comment on this post on Allison’s Reality on Bravo blog about your favorite product from Ecoist’s website (make sure to use a valid email address to win); (2) Blog about this contest on your own site and email the link to Allison at allison.boyer-at-yahoo-dot-com; (3) Check Allison’s blog on Friday, vote for Gossip on Sports every week without fail your favorite in the Project Blog competition and leave a comment on Allison’s blog showing support. The winner will be drawn at random from all qualifying entries.

Come on now, faithful readers! Help me snuff out the competition from week to week. This IS a sports blog, and I AM the Hometown Girl, so . . . throw a little vote love my way (Or Digg or StumbleUpon love) and try your luck at the weekly swag.

Don’t worry, we’ll tell you each week which posts are the Challenge Posts so you can vote for Gossip on Sports every week without fail your favorite entry. Stay tuned!

Ooh, ooh! Does the winnah smell like Midnight Pomegranate shower gel and Burberry Brit (or possibly Loulou by Cacherel, or Pacific Creation by Lolita Lempicka) cologne?

    That’s ME!

Why thank you, my partner in snark. I appreciate the vote of confidence.
